Vale Park Animal Hospital breaks ground on facility catered to pets and owners

A quality animal hospital needs a state-of-the-art facility. Today, Vale Park Animal Hospital took another step toward providing this for their clients with the groundbreaking of their new facility.

Two and a half years in the making, the staff at Vale Park Animal Hospital was happy to finally be breaking ground. The new location will offer more space for growth and better services for their patients and clients. Weiss Properties is developing the project, expected to be completed in late spring of 2020.

“There will be easier access for clients and patients to get into the hospital,” said Dr. Brent Lakia, veterinarian. “We’ll have a lot of new services like daycare and expanded boarding so we can take care of more pets and be more of a complete source of care for our patients.”

We’ll have a larger parking lot and a lot more ease of getting into exam rooms,” Lakia continued. “Having the extra land and a larger building to be able to take care of our patients and clients is going to be a wonderful experience for everybody.”

Vale Park Animal Hospital has already been working to create a stress-free environment for the pets that come through their offices. The new facility will include many new features that will aid in that goal. One of the most exciting features, among many others, is the separate entrances, waiting rooms, and exam rooms for cats and dogs.

“We’re trying really hard to pursue Fear Free practice,” said Dr. Mary Ann Sheller, Veterinarian. “We try to make visits easier and calmer for the patient. We’ve built the clinic to do that, and we’ve done everything we can to make it less stressful for the patients.”

Practice Manager Susan Lafferty agreed.

I’m really excited about our separate waiting rooms,” Lafferty said. “We’re always looking at ways to reduce the fear and anxiety of the patients, so I think that is a huge move in that direction.”

The new building will be around 12,600 square feet with 7,000 square feet dedicated to clinical space, 3,0000 square feet dedicated to boarding and daycare facilities. The remaining 2,500 square feet will be an upstairs area with dedicated space for staff.

“We’re really excited about having more exam rooms and space. I am particularly excited about the break room which will located on the second story of the hospital.  I’m always looking for ways to take care of my team, so I’m excited that they will have a space that will allow them to remove themselves from the busy hospital atmosphere.” Lafferty said. “That will give them a quiet and peaceful place so they can take time to rest, decompress and have that relaxation before returning back to complete their shift.” “Taking good care of them, helps them take excellent care of our clients and patients.”

While the new building will offer many additional tangible services for clients, Administrative Assistant Lauren Lafferty, who also works with the practice’s IT, is excited for the growth the new hospital will provide.

“Having a bigger space for our server and IT equipment will be nice as well it will allow faster processing, fewer errors and enhanced technology,” Lauren said.

Today’s groundbreaking was a celebration of the future for Vale Park Animal Hospital. The entire staff came out to celebrate with sandwiches, cupcakes, and fellowship with each other. There is much anticipation for the new facility and all that it will allow the team to accomplish.

“I’m excited to see how much more we can do for our patients and clients,” said Jackie Stalbaum, Office Manager. “We’re going to have plenty of room now to do as much as we can for the pet owners in Valpo and the surrounding area. We’re located in a perfect, easy, convenient place to come and get your vet care.”
