MY HUSBAND'S WILD DESIRES - Hammond Community Theatre

When: Sunday, June 15, 2014 from 7 – 9 pm
Monday, June 16, 2014 from 7 – 9 pm

Where: Beatniks On Conkey, 418 Conkey Street, Hammond, IN
Audition Notes: We will be cold-reading cuts from the script.

For those who feel they don't particularly do cold-reading very well, you are welcome to come with a prepared, (i.e., MEMORIZED) one to two-minute comic monologue.

Perusal scripts will be available by mid-April. Contact Earle Howe at earlehowe@comcast.net

Director's Notes: Despite the title and subject matter, this is a rather sweet, endearing, almost naive show. It is not sleazy in any way. Nothing "nudge, nudge, wink, wink" about it. Almost Charlie Brown-like as the characters straightforwardly explore their sexual expectations and preferences. The dichotomy between the subject matter and the mode of expression is wherein the humor lies.
Casting Requirements/Characters Detail

Mr. Griffin. (Late Forties) – The perfect picture of a successful middle-aged business executive

Mrs. Griffin. (Mid Forties) – An elegantly attractive woman with the calmly self-assured bearing of someone who probably did her pre-teen shopping at Bergdorf-Goodman's

Connelly. (Late Forties) – A super in his late forties whose body has the look of a once-burly frame softened by immersion in oceans of beer. His broad face wears the serenity appropriate to one who has come to accept in terms of a little something on the side or under the table

Burglar. (Around Fifty) – Skinny, nervous-looking, fresh out of prison and not eager to go back

Louise. (Pushing Forty) – Mrs. Griffin's sister. Thin, sad-eyed, and given to collapsing helplessly a lot

logo6x10 FESTIVAL - 4th Street Theater

Where: 4th Street Theater

Audition Infomation: For this first event, we will be looking for directors and actors who would like to try something new, something that does not have a huge time commitment, and something that would give a boost to a new theatrical form. We hope you will want to give this a try.

If you are interesting in being considered for a directing spot, there is an application form you need to send in. Experienced directors are welcome. However, we would like to encourage people to apply who are interested in directing, but have not had an opportunity to show what they can do in any of the area theaters.

Details about the process are these:

1. Directors submit applications and will be chosen from the applicants.
2. After the directors have been chosen and accept the position, scripts will be made available for reading and then will meet with the event producer to select which script they will direct.
3. A cattle call audition will be held for casting each production.
4. Rehearsal time period is three weeks. All rehearsals will be held off site until tech week. During tech week, each cast will be given time to come to the theater, meet with lighting and sound people for the show.
5. There is no budget for costumes and sets. Each cast must provide its own.
6. Sets must be minimal and easily moved on and off in the context of the show.
7. Casts will vary in size, but generally be small.
8. Performances will be held over two weekends in August. Exact dates will be provided soon.

We hope that this is going to encourage some enthusiasm and excitement for a new event in our theater community. Give it a chance and be a part of it!

Casting Requirements: TBA

Rehearsal Information: TBA

When: Sunday, October 19, 2014 from 7 – 9 pm, Monday, October 20, 2014 from 7 – 9 pm

Where: Beatniks On Conkey, 418 Conkey Street, Hammond, IN

Audition Notes: We will be cold reading from the script. If you don't feel you do well at cold reading, you may also prepare a one to two-minute (MEMORIZED) comic scene. Perusal scripts available after September.

Director's Notes: Rehearsals will run essentially Mondays thru Thursdays from 7 to 9 pm. Full cast rehearsals almost all the time. This is an ensemble production, so everyone is needed all the time.

Casting Requirements/Characters Detail: We need three actors. Male or Female. All ages are invited to audition. As we said before, this is an ensemble production, so we will be trying to match talented people who "work well with others" – the key to making this show a success. As with the "Shakespeare Abridged" show, there are three personality types involved; since this is not only a show about a multiplicity of characters, it is also a show about the three actors who portray those characters. The three "personality types" are 1)The Serious Actor, 2) The Amiable Actor, and 3) The Sensitive (Gay?) Actor. These personality types will color the portrayals of the individual characters – sort of like having a "play within a play", we will have "people within the characters". At least, it's a subtlety we'll be working on. Any questions, don't hesitate to ask.
