United Way volunteers complete 56 Day of Caring projects in three counties

Thanks to more than 530 volunteers 56 nonprofit projects were completed on Friday, August 6 as part of United Way’s annual Day of Caring event.

As the largest single-day volunteer event in Northwest Indiana, Day of Caring brings together residents and businesses to support their community by helping area nonprofits with clean-up projects and more.

“We are so glad to be back in person,” said Kim Olesker, president and CEO of United Way of Porter County. “Day of Caring is just a great way to see the power of community in action.”

Volunteers worked on projects in Lake, Porter and LaPorte Counties. More than 35 nonprofits benefited. Projects included landscaping, painting, building, collection drives and more.

The day kicked off with a free breakfast rally in Valparaiso, sponsored by 1st Source Bank, CSI, Horizon Bank, Indiana Beverage, Kankakee Valley REMC, Dr. Larry McAfee, McAfee Animal Hospital, Meijer, NIPSCO, Northwest Health, Dr. Jerry and Linda Rodenbarger, Sensit Technologies, The Times Media Company and Urschel. Food donations were provided by Family Express, Pines Village Retirement Communities and Starbucks.
