Two CHS Students Named 2014 Merit Semifinalists

CHS-Merit-Semifinalists-2013Two Chesterton High School seniors are among the nation’s 16,000 Semifinalists announced in the 2014 National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) competition. These students have completed the first step in the competition for some 8,000 Merit Scholarships, worth more than $35 million, to be offered next spring.

Based on selection index scores on the 2012 PSAT/NMSQT, the CHS students cited in the 59th annual competition are Andrew Hurst and Taryn Trusty.

Hurst, son of Charles and Brenda Hurst of Chesterton, is active in Boys Varsity Swimming, National Honor Society, Student Council, Eagle Scout, and Special Olympics Swim coaching. He plans to study biomedical engineering.

Trusty, daughter of David and Candy Trusty of Chesterton, is a member of NHS, Debate team, Business Professionals of America (BPA), Varsity Golf team and Tennis team. She is a volunteer for the Free the Girls Organization and a junior board member of Jacob’s Ladder Organization. She plans to study engineering and law for a career as a patent lawyer.
