Turning Discarded Stuff Into Dollars For Shelter Animals

Merrillville-Animal-Yard-SaleOn Sunday, July 14 from 9am to 2pm, the staff of Merrillville Animal Hospital (6226 Cleveland Street) in Merrillville, hosted a giant yard sale to raise money for The Humane Society of Northwest Indiana. The event offered great deals on gently-used clothing, furniture, music, toys, pet supplies, and just about everything under the sun.

The idea for the fundraiser was from Merrillville Animal Hospital employee Anna Ponce Sadlowski who with permission from the hospital’s owners Dr. Douglas and Linda Marler, enlisted the help of her fellow MAH workers and friends -- Brandy Thomas, Steve Fields, Sarah Denton, Brandon Denton, and Erica Elmore – in collecting sale items and selling them.

After the final customer had the left the parking lot, a total of $747.64 had been raised. Anna Ponce Sadlowski presented the donation to HSNI board member Mary Ann Massa as volunteers cheered. The HSNI had volunteers taking care of the many adoptable animals that were on site, chilling in the shade for bargain seekers to meet.
