1. Beautiful Skies Make Majestic Star Dawn of the Dunes Marathon a Success
The second annual Majestic Star Dawn of the Dunes Marathon took place on a beautiful Sunday morning at Marquette Park. The race hosts a marathon, half marathon, 5k run and walk, and a 1k kids fun run through the Gary location, which brought in around 700 runners from across the region.
2. Hundreds Try to Tackle The Beast Boot Camp 5K
Approximately 200 runners answered the Beast Boot Camp 5k challenge this morning at the Lake County Fairgrounds. This is not your normal 5k, but rather a physical and mental challenge lead and supported by the local U.S. Marines.
3. Northshore Health Centers Hosts their 1st Annual Easter Egg Hunt
Easter festivities are always fun and today the 1st Annual Northshore Health Centers Easter Egg Hunt was no exception! Children of all ages were invited to come out to the hunt and enjoy all the activities that Northshore had going on.
4. 2014 County Line Orchard 10 Mile Race Raises Funds for Calumet Region Striders' Junior Programs
When you think of County Line Orchard in Hobart you typically don't think of running races -- you think of apples and their delicious donuts -- but it proved to be the perfect place for the Calumet Region Striders to host their annual 10 mile run. This year, the race expanded to include a 1 mile youth cross country race and an apple dash.
5. Friends of Hospice of the Calumet Area Hosts, "Mum's The Word" Luncheon
On Wednesday morning, The Friends of Hospice, the fundraising auxiliary of Hospice of the Calumet Area, hosted their annual "Mum's the Word" fall luncheon at Avalon Manor in Merrillville. The event kicked off with excitement as the boutique shopping began at 10:30 a.m., followed by the luncheon at noon.
6. IWCI Shows Knowledge on Workers Compensation at Seminar
The Work Comp 360: IWCI Northwest Indiana Chapter Annual Seminar took place on Wednesday at the Avalon Manor in Merrillville. The IWCI (Indiana Worker's Compensation Institute, Inc.) is a networking group of workplace professionals who promotes and conducts programs of general education in worker's compensation and related areas.
7. St. Mary Medical Center Breaks Ground on Addition to Surgical Pavilion
Wednesday marked the groundbreaking launch of the new surgical pavilion addition to St. Mary Medical Center. This Surgical Pavilion/ICU addition will add more than 113,000 square feet to the Medical Center. Staff and guests gathered in a canopy, despite the rain, to celebrate this exciting addition.
8. Hometown Happenings' Space Race 5K Raises Funds for the Challenger Learning Center of Hammond
"May the force be with you," is something runners heard while crossing the finish line Sunday morning at the Challenger Learning Center's Space Race 5K and 2K walk. The 3rd annual race brought together Star Wars characters and 5K enthusiasts to raise funds for Challenger's programs.
9. 2014 Porter Regional Hospital Celebrates Their NICU Reunion and Graduation
Smiles filled the Porter Regional Hospital community room today as they hosted their annual NICU Graduate Party/Reunion. Parents of children ranging in age from one to twenty two years old gathered together with the nurses of the NICU to celebrate the amazing progress of their children.
10. Franciscan Omni Health & Fitness-Schererville Hosted its Third Annual "Anyone Can Do a 5k Walk/Run"
Franciscan Omni Health & Fitness-Schererville hosted its third annual Anyone Can Do a 5k walk/run on Saturday, September 20, 2014. This year, the race had some very special guests to cheer on the participants. These guests included Biggest Loser Season 14 contestant, Danni Allen, Biggest Loser Season 11 contestant, Courtney Crozier, and certified member of the National Athletic Trainers Association, Sandy Krum. The race started at approximately 8:00 AM with it's biggest turnout yet.
