Community Healthcare System's 14th annual Share the Love Event for cancer resource centre uplifts and inspires
The packed room at this year’s Share the Love luncheon demonstrated the event’s goal: Come together to support cancer patients and their caregivers.
The luncheon, which took place Feb. 15 at The Center for Visual and Performing Arts, was hosted by Friends of the Cancer Resource Centre in conjunction with the auxiliaries of Community Hospital, St. Catherine Hospital and St. Mary Medical Center. Proceeds from the event’s ticket sales and raffles benefit the Cancer Resource Centre in Munster.
Bellaboo's becomes the ideal kids hangout in NWI
Fourteen years ago, the Region was looking for the perfect place that fully encompasses what it means to be a kid while offering a creative space that would allow even the most extravagant of young imaginations to come to life.
Bellaboo’s Play and Discovery Center, located in Lake Station, was created for this very reason and officially opened on September 15, 2009.

Every year countless walks and runs are held to raise money and awareness for different causes. Whether it be for breast cancer or Alzheimer's or heart disease, most of us have at least heard about or participated in one of these events. What many people might not be familiar with, though, is Fight for Air Climb.
The very first Fight for Air Climb was held by the American Lung Association (ALA) 12 years ago at the Oakbrook Terrace Tower in Chicago to bring people who have been impacted by lung disease together in a unique way.
Four Decades of Service: South Shore CVA celebrates 40 years in the Region
For the past four decades, the South Shore Convention and Visitors Authority (CVA) has served the Region for all of its tourism needs. Beginning in 1983 as the Lake County Convention and Visitors Bureau, the South Shore CVA has become a powerhouse for bringing money into Northwest Indiana.
“Northwest Indiana is really a bullseye economic opportunity for the family raising kids and for business owners,” said President and CEO David Uran. “We are in the business of collecting dollars from visitors and putting them back into the communities themselves. That's our goal.”
Munster community celebrates Earth Day with historic park cleaning
Caring members of the Munster community gathered to help beautify a public park and celebrate Mother Earth on Earth Day. Although it was a chilly and cloudy day, that did not stop the Earth Day festivities at Heritage Park. The day featured fun activities for all ages, giveaways, booths with information, performances, featured speakers, and an official Weed Wrangle to help rid Heritage Park of invasive species.
Urban League of Northwest Indiana annual Scholastic Achievement Luncheon deepens bond between students and community
It’s always a heartwarming affair when community members go out of their way to set the future generation up for success, and that’s exactly what happened on Wednesday, May 10 when the Urban League of Northwest Indiana held its annual Scholastic Achievement Luncheon. Pride, excitement, and gratitude hung in the air as 24 donors awarded nearly $70,000 in scholarships to 45 students from all over the Region.
Hammond Welcomes 47 new U.S. Citizens at annual Naturalization Ceremony
Hammond celebrated Independence Day by welcoming 47 new U.S. citizens from 25 different countries at their annual Naturalization Ceremony.
Organized by the League of Women Voters in collaboration with the City of Hammond and presided over by Magistrate Judge Andrew Rodovich, the ceremony has long marked the start of Hammond’s 4th of July festivities at Wolf Lake. Family and friends of the new citizens gathered to watch their loved ones pledge allegiance to the country and celebrate a moment that for some was decades in the making.
Munster celebrates 28th annual National Night Out Against Crime event
The Munster community was treated to the 28th annual National Night Out Against Crime event on Tuesday, August 1.
Visitors were provided useful information on crime prevention and safety demonstrations along with a creative, family-fun experience. This included musical performances, safety mascots, prizes, and giveaways spread out across 130 booths at the Munster Community Pool.
Crown Point community comes together for Timothy Grzych Memorial Golf Outing
Crown Point community members and visitors from around the country came together at White Hawk Country Club. They celebrated the life and legacy of a long-time pillar of the city with the Timothy Grzych Memorial Golf Outing.
Rededication of Hammond Marina honors former Mayor Thomas M. McDermott Sr.
When Thomas M. McDermott Sr., former mayor of the City of Hammond, fought for the creation of the Hammond Marina in the late ‘80s, he did so knowing that it might place future political endeavors in the Region in jeopardy. The $23 million (closer to $58 million today when adjusted for inflation) development was one of a series made in the Region during the time tapping into the economic potential of Lake Michigan. If it failed, it may have spelt the end for Hammond.
30 years later, it’s abundantly clear that the marina was a launchpad for further development in Hammond. From the Horseshoe Casino to the miles of sandy Lake Michigan beach, the marina has become a travel destination throughout the Region and the Midwest.
