A lot of business is conducted in the Region, and GreatNews.Life is there to capture the biggest moments. Whether that’s spotlighting some of the businesses making an impact on the day-to-day lives of those living in Northwest Indiana to helping find our readers a home in an ever expanding market, we’re proud to serve as a leader in business reporting in the Region.

2024 saw a lot of focus placed on the people who help production run in Northwest Indiana. New ventures were introduced to the Region, old ones were reacquainted, and a special spotlight shone on the employees that make every successful business work.

Crossroads Chamber recognizes regional achievements at 4th Annual Business Excellence Awards Ceremony

Business leaders from around Northwest Indiana came together on Thursday, March 7, for Crossroads Chamber’s Annual Business Excellence Awards Ceremony. Hosted at the Dean & Barbara White Community Center, the event celebrated the businesses, nonprofits, and individuals that help make the Region what it is.

First hosted four years ago, the event features nine different awards with the nominees decided by Crossroads Chamber members. Each award honors a different set of accomplishments and categories, from spearheading remarkable sales growth to championing a philanthropic cause throughout Northwest Indiana.

Latitude Commercial’s annual retreat helps team find new perspectives, build focus, and strengthen connections going in to 2024

Once a year, the entire Latitude Commercial team, from the newest hires to the co-founders and president, retreats from the office and its day-to-day workload to review the last year and find room for growth in the year to come.

The annual retreat is a tradition going back over half a decade. It gives the different departments of Latitude the opportunity to share how their years went, establish both short and long-term goals, and connect with each other in a way that their busy schedules rarely afford.

LCEA Annual Meeting updates Northwest Indiana on economic happenings around Lake County

On Wednesday, March 20, the Lake County Economic Alliance (LCEA) held its annual meeting at Briar Ridge Country Club in Schererville. The morning included a breakfast along with a panel or ‘Roundtable’ of five Lake County municipal leaders including; Hobart Mayor Josh Huddlestun, Crown Point Mayor Pete Land, Hammond Mayor Thomas McDermott Jr., Gary Mayor Eddie D. Ben Eberle, a senior at Hobart High School, is set to graduate in just a few weeks – and he’ll do so as a business owner. He crafted Tow Scout, a clever product that works as a portable rearview mirror for watercraft such as boats and kayaks.

The idea is entirely his own – having thought of it as a way to help his family keep his sister safe as she learned how to waterski. Eberle’s dad needed to keep an eye on his daughter as he towed her along, but their family’s boat lacked any kind of mirror or an easy way to install one.

Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District opens Double Track on the South Shore Line

After years of putting the project together, residents of Northern Indiana can finally rejoice. The Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District (NICTD) held a ribbon cutting for the opening of their Double Track service on Monday, May 13. 

Several state representatives arrived at the Michigan City train station before the train brought them to the Miller train station for the program honoring this celebration.
