Kia dominated the auto industry awards season in 2019 with the launch of the Telluride, their largest SUV ever. This year, they are introducing its cousin, the 2021 Seltos. Featuring a rugged look paired with a versatile design, the Seltos is a subcompact SUV that does not skip on utility.
“It’s an all-wheel drive vehicle with all the modern safety equipment starting at $21,000,” said Tom Seely, General Manager of Thomas KIA of Highland. “That’s just great value, absolute bang for your buck.”
The Seltos is a five-seat SUV, and beats almost all its rivals in cargo volume while also offering top-class fuel economy. There are two engines available to choose from, the base 2.0-liter four-cylinder offers 146 horsepower, while the turbocharged 1.6-liter four cylinder delivers 175. For drivers who prefer front-wheel drive, that is an available option as well.
The engine, paired with a 7-speed dual clutch transmission offers a smooth, quiet ride that affords all the versatility needed to handle the Region’s diverse weather.
“It’s being reviewed very well,” Seely said. “It’s already being talked about as a candidate for the different 2021 compact SUV of the year awards.”
While compact, the Seltos strikes a bold profile, forgoing the soft, rounded design many SUVs in its class share. There are 12 different colors available, including four two-tone options.
“Kia did an impressive job with the styling,” Seely said. “It almost looks like a mini-Telluride.”
Even with the high-value price point, Kia did not cut corners on the interior. Four choices of trimmings provide a variety of tones to choose from, and the second-row seating reclines and offers a USB charging port and AC vents.
Like all modern Kia vehicles, the Seltos is on the leading edge of technology. It offers a class-leading 10.25-inch LCD touch screen, eight high-performance Bose Premium Sound speakers, and a wireless charging station. There are also an array of driver assist features available, including blind-spot warning, lane keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control.
