The key to success: teacher keynotes event

Mr. Andrew Fischer, the automotive teacher, attended an automotive technician training event and was asked to be a keynote speaker.
“I think [me being keynote] was something [the event coordinators] felt comfortable with because I know a lot of the guys that share that particular organization. They know that I came from the industry right into high school, so I get to see it firsthand versus what they think,” Fischer said.
Fischer was hired as Lake Central’s automotive teacher last year and has been doing as much as he can with the program to impact the students that pass through his door.
“I’m very fired up and passionate about trying to make a program like this succeed to build future tradesmen and future adults. It’s not just about cars; it’s not about automotive repair. It’s about just trying to help the next generation become successful, in anything they do,” Fischer said.
Fischer was asked to speak about the success of his program. People in attendance wanted to know why his class works so well.
“When you are 750 miles away from home, talking about what you are doing at your program, what’s working for you, [when] somebody is curious how you’re succeeding and what can be better for, or make a change for their particular program or area, that is pretty neat and humbling,” Fischer said.
