The Chesterton High School International Baccalaureate to Host New Art Exhibit

Chesterton-High-SchoolThe Chesterton High School International Baccalaureate (IB) students will host an advance art show entitled “Out of Space-But Never Ideas” on Wednesday and Thursday, April 9 and 10 from 6-8 p.m. in the Upper Gymnasium of Chesterton High School, 2125 S. 11th Street in Chesterton. Visitors should use Entrance 31. An elevator is available to access the second floor. Admission is free.

This sixth annual art exhibit showcases the learning journey of 21 CHS students who are either in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program or part of the Senior Portfolio Program. Currently there are five IB students and 16 portfolio students. Both sections fuel their studio work through research about artists, culture, history, literature, science and a myriad of other interests as well as the experimentation of multiple media to determine the best expression of their ideas.

After the yearlong process of making work, students design their own gallery spaces where they will present their finished work. They are responsible for all aspects of mounting their show, promoting it to the public and hosting it during visitation hours. It’s truly a taste of what artists have to do to promote and sell their work.

In addition to the public exhibit, IB students will also host the show for their peers during the school day who visit with their teachers. Many teachers use the art viewing experience as a classroom activity to facilitate discussion or writing prompts.

The public is invited to come and enjoy the creative spirit of Out of Space-But Never Ideas! Something true to the large group this year where every inch in the gallery will matter to best showcase the fine work of these extraordinary students.
