Support Local Military Families during 2016 YMCA Military Family Month

YMCA-Yellow-GreenSince 1993, YMCAs have celebrated Military Family Month, providing Americans the opportunity to recognize the dedication, sacrifice, and service of military personnel and their families. The Duneland Family YMCA would like to show our support for military families during the month of April and throughout the year with programs and initiatives that improve their well-being and provide opportunities to connect with other families waiting at home.

"When my husband retired from the U.S. Army after 20 years of service, the Duneland YMCA had great deals for me and my family. They were excited and more than willing to help us because we were a Military Family transitioning to a new area. Walking in the doors every morning I am always greeted by name and with a smile. Our family found out first-hand how Y loves to support our service members and their families, and appreciates all that the service members do every day to make this country a safe place," said Andrea Farmer, Veteran of the U.S. Army formerly stationed at Ft. Hood, Texas.

The Duneland YMCA offers free Y memberships through the Military Outreach Initiative for active duty families. "As a tribute to those who have served our great country, we also offer a 20% discount to any retired service members and their families," said Emily Hoge, Y Membership Coordinator. Since 2008, the Military Outreach Initiative has provided more than 75,000 Y memberships to military members in hundreds of Ys across America.
