#1StudentNWI:Superstar Students and Teachers Stand Out at Wirt-Emerson High School

Registration

For the lucky Tornado Troopers of Wirt-Emerson school begins August 24, 2015. Students began registering for Emerson classes early this week. Registration began on Tuesday August 11th with all new students who were registering for the very first time from grades 5-12.These students’ were more than eager to learn of the “Emersonian” ways and see the murals along the walls. Following the first registration, on August 12, 2-15 previously enrolled students from grades 6-12 were registered. All of the students were eager in anticipation for this school year to begin.

There were several student volunteers from the Wirt-Emerson Senior Class who helped the registration run smoothly. Amongst these was Nataija Johnson who was more than ecstatic about being a part of the registering team.

“I think it’s really important that I use my seniority and wisdom of my school to help the underclassmen and the new students with knowledge of our school. Whether it’s showing them where their classes are or just explaining the uniform policy to them.” Johnson says. “Personally after speaking to mostly all of the registered students, I feel as if this school year will be all around positive and lively. All of the students were extremely excited to be registering they are determined to express their creativity with us.”

Ebenezer Appiah is set to be a high school senior at Wirt-Emerson VPAHA later this August. Ebenezer is a member of the National Honor Society and a 15 time ISSMA gold medalist performer. Ebenezer yields a lot of presidential power. At the end of the last school year, Appiah was elected president by the senior class. He has a plethora of plans to make this school year the best one yet.

“Mostly I plan on working with my fellow councilmen and councilwomen to draft reasonable, practical, and fun proposals and get them approved. I may be the president but if we can work together as a unit, a class and as the class of 2016 it will be great!”

To add more to his presidential “swag” Appiah is also the president of the prestigious Wirt-Emerson band council.

“It was about October-November when I noticed that tension was raising between the band and the band conductors. So in my attempt to explore my solution, the bands lead conductor Mr. Lemmon tasked me with drafting a proposal for a band council, a system we had years ago but died away.”

He says. “So I drafted a constitution in less than a day, proof read it, and printed it out for the band to read, approve, and ratify. The next day I was president.”

In this position Appiah has raised $4,000 this year alone.

With all of this stress Ebenezer has remained a 4.0. Ebenezer is guessed by his peers to be senior class valedictorian.

Administration in Recognition

Wirt-Emerson is like home to so many students. Each day, we come to our school to expand our talents and our knowledge and we find encouragement, compliments, honesty, and wisdom around every corner. There is no doubt in the hearts and minds of every student who attends Wirt-Emerson that this positivity is surrounded around one person’s vast responsibility to uplift and encourage every person who walks through the front doors of our school. Dr. Adrian Richie is engulfed in extreme unambiguous positivity.

”Doc has a character that illuminates the hallways with peace, love and tranquility.” says Delawrence Nixon.

Dr. Richie uses his wisdom, knowledge, bravery, experience, and love to steer us in the direction of our dreams, and our futures.

“Dr. Richie always says you don’t believe me just watch, he says we can be anything we want to as long as we do the work.” Says Kayla Warren.

Not only does he sprinkle his wisdom on every student he interacts with, he says things that will be instilled into them for years to come.

“I remember walking down the hallway and I was really upset. Dr. Richie walked past, gave me a hug and he said There’s always tomorrow Now every time I’m upset I remember what he said there is always tomorrow to feel better than today.” says Taylor Howard

“Dr. Richie is simply amazing. I can honestly say that he is the best principle I’ve ever known.” says Ebenezer Appiah.

A team simply can’t excel without a good leader. An orchestra can’t play without a good conductor. A movie can’t film without a director. A school can’t function without a good principal, and honestly there’s no one more perfect for the job than Dr. Adrian Richie.
