Supermileage Club Participate in Challenge at Lucas Oil Raceway Park

Supermileage-Club-2015The Chesterton High School Supermileage Club created two fuel efficient super gas mileage cars that the group took to Indianapolis to compete in two classes at the Indiana Math, Science, and Technology Education Alliance (IMSTEA) Super Mileage Challenge. The competition was held at Lucas Oil Raceway Park, on a .686 mile oval track. The challenge had 21 schools participate, with 28 cars from all over Indiana.

Unfortunately, the team's best car was wrecked during the first lap, and the second car developed mechanical problems that could not be fixed. The second car did not complete enough laps to qualify for placing. After a full day of reconstruction and repair, the team was able to fix the wrecked car enough so that it was safe to operate. It then completed 30 laps at the end of the day, which was enough to qualify its run. The car's fuel economy and placement in the competition is yet to be determined.

Team members of the Super Mileage Club are: Tom Appel, Connor Archbald, Rachel Enright, Justin Evans, Brandon Franciskovich, Taylor Hayman-Captain, Trevor Krygier, Colin Lenburg, Dan Mochen, Matt Murfitt, Adam Rundzaitis, Ben Szubryt, Chance Szubryt, Andrew Thompson, Donna Trowbridge-Co-captain, Trevor VanNostran, Jacob Williger and Adam Wixted. The team's faculty advisors are Lance Nolting and assistant Tim Trowbridge.
