Student, school recognized at Merrillville Education Foundation event

A student and an elementary school were recognized at the third annual Merrillville Education Foundation (MEF) Walk-A-Thon last Saturday.

Cameron Griffin, third grader at Merrillville’s Iddings Elementary School, was recognized for raising the most money in donations for the event, collecting $220. MEF Executive Director Mary Hoffman presented the student with a gift basket to reward his efforts.

Salk Elementary School was also recognized with having the most participants at the event. Salk Elementary Principal Nicholas Petralia was presented with an award by MEF President Bruce Woods.

Participants in the “Better Health, Better Minds” event walked to raise funds for teacher grants. One hundred percent of the donations benefited the Merrillville schools.
