StoryPoint Chesterton Hosts Live Cooking Demo for Residents

Upcoming neighbors of StoryPoint Chesterton were invited for brunch and ‘Live’ cooking demonstration to determine general preferences among the residents. Angela Palmer, Executive Chef at the senior living community, gave a preview of food that will be served on top of the un-matched dedication to service as well.

“The plan for today was to have my initial introduction to the people our future residents at StoryPoint Chesterton,” said Palmer. "We wanted to give them a little tiny showcase of the food. More importantly, I wanted to have an opportunity to talk to them and get a sense of what food is to them."

Steve Beigle, son of future StoryPoint Chesterton resident, expressed his love for the facility.

“They go above and beyond with their residents which is the most important thing. Nobody else does this.”

Aside from providing a memorable afternoon, the senior living community encourages its residents to connect with its staff on a more personal level. Community Specialist for StoryPoint, JJ Swiatkowski, believes they’re different from other senior communities.

"We want our residents to get the best out of each and every day and this is the opportunity to set the stage. We want to be known as the premier StoryPoint.”

“I want residents to know Chef Angie on a one-on-one basis,” said Swiatkowski. “I want them to feel completely comfortable with her and connect. Connecting meaning it’s a personal relationship where they are going to feel comfortable."

After initial greetings had started, a true testament to the company’s dedication was shown when resident Lori Regan walked up to Chef Angela and asked if she could cook in her kitchen.

“That’s what it’s all about, a connection was made. It’s an opportunity for our residents to continue to do things they love on a day-in and day-out basis and enjoy not only the atmosphere but their life,” Swiatkowski added.

For Beigle and his mother, the choice was simple once they met with the staff and saw the vision.

"I went to every retirement community facility between Michigan City. This is the best by far in terms of the way they look at residents, especially the food,” said Beigle.
