St. Mary’s preschoolers send military care packages

The month of November is always a special time to remember our U.S. military veterans and current servicemen in our armed forces. Mrs. Cindy Anderson’s pre-kindergarten students at St. Mary Catholic Community School in Crown Point, wanted to thank our servicemen for the gift of freedom and safety they give us every day they serve in our military.

During the month of November, in honor of Veterans Day, the students and their families collected items for care packages to send to four different servicemen. Students learned about each branch of the military and the special jobs they perform. They also sent letters to their “Military Friends” thanking them for their duty and sacrifice.

Each of the four servicemen are from Indiana and serve in different branches of the military. Colin Arndt of Lowell, Indiana, is currently serving in the Navy, Tristan DeGonia of Lowell, Indiana, in the Marines, and James Reasner of Indianapolis, Indiana, in the Air Force. James Samyn of Crown Point, Indiana, who serves in the Army, is also an alumnus of St. Mary School.

The pre-school students also contributed to bulletin boards with photos of family members that are currently members of the military or are veterans. The students were very proud to talk about their family members and how they served our country.
