St. Mary’s honors two students with school’s highest award

A graduation tradition at St. Mary Catholic Community School in Crown Point is to honor the memory of Fr. Joseph Hammes by awarding two students with “The Hammes Award.”  Father Hammes is one of the HERO’s in the rich history of St. Mary’s parish.  St. Mary’s School was started in 1872.  The award given in his name goes to two students who exemplify Christian attitude and who live lives, even at a young age, of service.  This is the highest award given to a student at St. Mary Catholic Community School.  It signals to the community the school’s ideal student, who fully exemplifies what it means to live one’s life in the manner that Jesus would want us to.  The recipients of this award are academically and morally strong.  They are well liked, respected, and admired by the faculty and their peers.  This year’s Hammes Award winners were Kennedy Heath and Luke Nieman.
