St. Mary’s Students Participate in 2017 “March Madness” Basketball Tourney

St-Marys-Students-Participate-in-March-Madness-Basketball-Tourney-2017_01 St. Mary Catholic Community School hosted is annual March Madness 3 on 3 basketball tournament. It was another great family event at St. Mary's. Wildcats, young and old, came out to be a part of the fun. The tournament consisted of the 5th/6th graders in one bracket and the 7th/8th graders in the other. Seventeen teams came out this year. “I’m very grateful to you all our alumni who came back to referee the games. Our youngsters really look up to them,” said principal Tom Ruiz. Elias Gerodemos, Nick Geisen, Sam Krutz, Adam Warren, Nathan Waren, Anthony Pelicane, and Michael Mantel all came out to show their support for St. Mary’s and spend time with the younger students. The event was organized by St. Mary’s gym teacher, Mrs. Melanie Light.

St-Marys-Students-Participate-in-March-Madness-Basketball-Tourney-2017_02 "The Hoopers" won the 5th/6th grade bracket against "The Icers". James Mantel (6th grade) from team "The Hoopers" was quoted saying, "Both teams played a great game. Throughout the night, the teams all had good sportsmanship and played their best."

St-Marys-Students-Participate-in-March-Madness-Basketball-Tourney-2017_03 Team "JDBN Island" won the 7th/8th grade bracket against team "Mega 4X". When asked about the night, eighth grader Nick Flesher said, "Success is worth the pain. Both teams played a terrific game. It was a great night of competition and basketball.”
