St. Mary Medical Center to host 2019 Stroke Symposium: Time is Brain on Friday, May 3

When it comes to stroke, seconds count. That will be the message on Friday, May 3, as St. Mary Medical Center hosts its 2019 Stroke Symposium: Time is Brain, from 8:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. in the West Lobby and Auditorium at 1500 S. Lake Park Ave. in Hobart.

The annual event will feature free health screenings, including an A1-C glucose test and lipid profile, as well as physician presentations, a vendor fair and a healthy cooking demonstration. Breakfast and lunch will be provided. Twelve-hour fasting is recommended for attendees who will have the lipid panel screening. Other free screenings include body composition, bone density and blood pressure.

Speakers at the event include Neurologist Mark Simaga, M.D., medical director of the Stroke Center at St. Mary Medical Center, who will discuss the “ABC’s” of stroke and why time is crucial for its diagnosis and treatment, as well as Electrophysiologist Samer Ajam, M.D., who will speak on the connection between stroke and atrial fibrillation.
