St. Mary Medical Center is pleased to announce it has been recertified by The Joint Commission for Advanced Certification for Total Hip and Total Knee Replacement.
St. Mary Medical Center has earned the Gold Seal of Approval® for Advanced Certification for Total Hip and Total Knee Replacement by The Joint Commission, the leading accreditor of health care organizations in the United States.
The Joint Academy at St. Mary Medical Center underwent a rigorous review by The Joint Commission. Experts evaluated compliance with advanced disease-specific care standards and total hip and total knee replacement requirements, including orthopedic consultation, and pre-operative, intraoperative and post-surgical orthopedic surgeon follow-up care.
The Joint Academy programs offered by the hospitals of Community Healthcare System –Community Hospital, Munster, St. Catherine Hospital, East Chicago, St. Mary Medical Center, Hobart, and Community Stroke & Rehabilitation Center, Crown Point – begin with patients receiving education about their procedures prior to surgery, and continue with inpatient group therapy, followed by education and readiness for recovery at home.
“By achieving recertification, St. Mary Medical Center has demonstrated its continual commitment to providing the highest level of care with positive patient outcomes in a safe and efficient manner,” said Janice Ryba, CEO, St. Mary Medical Center. “This designation reflects the dedication provided by our Joint Academy team, from orthopedic physicians and nursing staff to physical therapy and rehabilitation.”
Established in 2016 and awarded for a two-year period, the advanced certification was developed in response to the growing number of patients undergoing a total hip or total knee replacement surgery, as well as the increased focus on clinical evidence-based patient care as it relates to pain management, quality of life issues, functional limitation in mobility and the return to normal daily activities.
