Speedway Bear Delivered to Westchester Intermediate School

Speedway-Bear-delivered-to-WISA Speedway Bear in the Chair was delivered to Westchester Intermediate School by local resident Phyllis Bishop, administrative assistant of the Indiana Association of Student Councils (IASC) and on the Advisory Board of the Riley Kids Caring and Sharing of Riley Hospital for Children at Indiana University Health. The Speedway Bear was brought to the school for sixth grader Ava Yagelski who was a patient at Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis.

Representatives of Riley bring the bears to the schools to help patients and their classmates adjust to their absence at school. With the help of classmates and school representatives, the Speedway Bear is a reminder of Ava’s absence and will represent her in the seat of her class while she is away. When she returns, she can take the bear home with her.

Students and staff are encouraged to send their classmate/student notes and to take photos with the Bear to send to Ava while she is away. The program is funded by the employees of Speedway LLC.
