Southlake KIA kicked off the summer with their first Cruise Night of the season. Region residents brought their Mustangs, Challengers and Roadrunners to Merrillville to celebrate the special occasion.
Cars performed burnouts on a side stretch of road. Mike Alexander, KIA sales manager, said he felt that it was a nice bonding moment for the community.
“People get to show their cars off and meet other neighbors in the area,” Alexander said. “They get to see people they haven’t seen and cars they haven’t seen. It is a nice experience for people to get out and about.”
Alexander said that the audience could gain valuable insight from the event.
“You get to share tips and tricks,” he said. “You get to share how to build a car.”
Attendee Antoni McKee attends the events as often as he can. McKee has had a passion for cars since he was young.
“I always have liked working on them,” McKee said. “I like getting my hands dirty.”
McKee did not have a favorite car in particular, but appreciated the variety of different vehicles. He said he attended the event because of social media.

“I see it advertised everywhere on Facebook,” he said. “This is a really fun event, and I know everyone likes coming out.”
There will be two Cruise Nights each in July and August. Fun times, cool rides, and chances to bond with friends will all be tools of the trade.
