Southern Shore Art Association Exhibitions Endorsed by Chicago Tribune

Southern-Shore-Art-AssociationFor the third time in the past 15 months The Chicago Tribune has cited one of the Southern Shore Art Association monthly exhibitions as their “Pick of the Week.” The current July exhibition "Summer of Art” was highlighted in the newspaper’s Arts and Entertainment section and featured a photograph of a painting by Dana Dabagia, an SSAA Advisory Board member, which appears in the exhibition at the Michigan City Franklin Street gallery.

Former exhibitions designated as the Tribune’s “Pick of the Week” were “Fifty Shades of Female” and “Tomorrow, Back and Beyond” both in 2013.

“The SSAA Gallery is becoming known for visitor-drawing exhibitions often with themes on a variety of subjects. The artworks of paintings, sculpture, photography, textiles and mixed media range from traditional to contemporary at every show. We encourage regional artists, art lovers and those who want to support the arts to consider affordable membership in the SSAA for this unique opportunity to enjoy the wealth of artistic talent in our greater community," said Anneke Dekker, Board of Directors president.

The Southern Shore Art Association and Gallery exist as a regional non-profit venue for established and emerging artists in a variety of media to exhibit and sell their work. The SSAA also offers art classes and art related mid-month programming related to the arts. Exhibitions range from member and guest artist shows, juried shows and exhibitions showcasing the work of special needs students. SSAA specialty affiliates include the Camera Club and the Abstract/Expressionist/Surrealist Club with regular meetings for discussion, critique and work on evolving projects.

The Gallery is open on Friday, Saturday and Sunday from Noon to 5:00 p.m. (CST). A free opening reception to meet the artists is held in conjunction with Michigan City’s First Friday Art Walk from 5-8pm. The Gallery is located at 724 Franklin Street.
