The 2024 National Runner-Up South Suburban College (SSC) Men’s Basketball Team has received an impressive recognition in the newest NJCAA Division II Pre-Season Poll. Ranked #2 in the country, the Bulldogs are poised to make their mark in the upcoming 2024-‘25 season.
With their first game scheduled for Tuesday, November 5, 2024, the Bulldogs will face off against Calumet College St Joseph’s (JV) in a thrilling home opener. The team is eager to build upon their previous success, as they return three players from last year's 34-3 National Runner-Up squad.
Under the guidance of Head Coach John Pigatti, who has dedicated 19 seasons to South Suburban College, the Bulldogs are determined to secure their 14th Regional Championship and make a strong appearance in the National Championship Tournament. The team's impressive schedule for the 2024-‘25 season includes five top-ranked opponents within the top 25.
Coach Pigatti expressed his gratitude for the recognition, stating, "It is a nice honor to be recognized as one of the best JUCO men's basketball programs in the country. That is a testament to all those who have played here during my 18 seasons at South Suburban College."
While acknowledging the team's youth and their adjustment to the high-pressure atmosphere, Coach Pigatti remains optimistic about their potential. He added, "This year's team will be very young and are new to this type of atmosphere. We will see how we progress throughout the year."
