South Suburban College makes students their number one priority

At South Suburban College (SSC), there is an essence of authenticity. A quality superior, and supportive experience is provided to help students pursue their goals and achieve success.

SSC President Lynette D. Stokes is passionate about the service provided to current and prospective students.

"What separates SSC from other institutions is the people who work here,” she remarked. “Our faculty, staff and administration want to see our students succeed. We have award winning faculty with real world experience. We help students achieve success whatever their goals are, wherever they’re at in their education."

With student success at the forefront of the decision-making process, SSC delayed the start date of the Spring 2022 semester until January 18. Delaying the start of classes by one week provides more time for both in-person and remote registration, counseling, financial aid, and other services for students since reopening from the holiday break.

"The adjusted start date allows prospective and returning students ample time to select courses that best meet their work/life needs, Stokes stated.

The extended time frame also allows students to navigate the college’s newer processes to apply for the Student Debt Relief Fund and free laptops through the Technology Relief Fund.

Along with offering a wide selection of resources, career education and college transfer credit programs, SSC also provides non-credit customized training and dozens of special interest classes. In December, the Adult Education Department extended the enrollment period for its free programs to January 12-14, 2022. Adults who desire to expand their skills and pursue a high school education can do so through the college’s High School Equivalency (HSE/GED) program. There is also an option for English as a Second Language (ESL) allowing non-native students the opportunity to improve their English skills from beginning to advanced levels.

“Education is one of the most powerful tools that can be used to change the world,” Stokes enthusiastically concluded. “The educational gateway to change starts at South Suburban College.”
