South Shore Line celebrates Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day by offering FREE rides

National Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day is Thursday, April 25, 2019. South Shore Line (SSL) invites up to three youth 18 years of age and under to ride for FREE with a fare-paying adult. A fare-paying adult applies to any paying parent or guardian. No tickets are necessary for youth riding for free. Please note the Quiet Car remains in effect on the last train car of rush hour trains.

Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day is a national, public education program that connects classroom education with the actual working world. It encourages young people to dream big about their futures without gender limitations and also helps them better understand their future roles in family, work, and the community. Nicole Barker, Director of Capital Investment and Implementation for the SSL said, “We hope that by offering these free rides, it will encourage people to participate in Take our Daughters and Sons to Work Day. We have a large number of riders who live in Northwest Indiana and commute to Chicago for work. By riding along with parents to work, we hope local youth will understand the vast employment opportunities available to them that are just a train ride away.”

For more information on train schedules, discounts and to plan your trip, please visit mysouthshoreline.com or download the SSL app (available for iPhone and Android).

The South Shore Line is a commuter rail line operated by the Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District (NICTD) between Millennium Station in downtown Chicago and the South Bend International Airport in South Bend, Indiana.
