South Shore Convention & Visitors Authority Moves Travel Forward This National Travel and Tourism Week

May 7 thru 13 is National Travel and Tourism Week (NTTW), the annual celebration of the contributions of the U.S. travel industry. The week spotlights the essential role that travel plays in driving economic growth and innovation.

“The travel industry fuels every industry—our success is our partners’ and region’s success,” said David Uran, President/CEO of the South Shore Convention & Visitors Authority (SSCVA). “This week is a prime opportunity to elevate the message that travel is essential to move Indiana’s economy forward.”

Established in 1983, NTTW is an annual tradition to mark the U.S. travel industry’s role in fostering economic growth, cultivating vibrant communities, creating quality job opportunities, stimulating business activity and elevating the quality of life for everyday Americans.

In Lake County, travel serves as a catalyst for a productive economy and helps power the success of other industries. According to a recent Rockport Analytics study, the Lake County travel industry generated $1.1 billion in tourism spending and $774 million in total economic impact. Tourism supported more than 15,000 jobs, fueling communities, small businesses and working families across the county.

“In Northwest Indiana the travel industry drives state and local economic impact,” stated Uran. “Travel is at the heart of the South Shore, powering a strong local economy, creating jobs and strengthening our community’s culture and identity. This National Travel and Tourism Week, we are proud to celebrate all that travel does for our community now, and all that it will contribute in the future.”

The SSCVA is celebrating National Travel and Tourism Week with week-long giveaways and will be traveling around in the South Shore Tour Mobile visiting local businesses to raise awareness about all there is to see and do along the South Shore.
