Senior Sales Engineer Gavin Bristol found dream career at NITCO

Gavin Bristol has always wanted to work with technology and the internet, so when he saw an opening at NITCO, he took a chance. Fast forward 23 years later, NITCO proved to be a perfect place for him to create a career and grow his skills.

Bristol has been at NITCO since July 13, 1998, starting when he was just 17 years old.

“I actually applied at NITCO at 15, and of course, I was too young,” he laughed. “I wasn’t really paying attention to labor laws, I just wanted to work with internet and technology.”

Once he was an appropriate age, Bristol applied again at NITCO and has never looked back.

“I wanted to do something with computers, and I knew NITCO just started selling dial-up internet and I thought ‘Hey, I’m really interested in that, and I want to be a part of that,’” Bristol said.

He started in the tech support department, moved to the MIS department, then wireless, before eventually finding his way to his current department and position as Senior Sales Engineer.

“I support our sales staff with the technical aspects of their sales, whether that be phone systems, questions about routers, things like that. I also do direct sales with business sales,” Bristol said.

Bristol’s time with NITCO as well as his experience with various departments within the company helps him to better perform and assist customers.

“I’ve done all kinds of stuff from customer installs to residential installs, to tech support calls, to replacing the ink and toner of the printers around the office,” Bristol said. “It’s been a great journey. It’s been really exciting to see the company change and grow over time. I’m really happy with where NITCO is as a whole. It’s neat to see things change so much.”

Bristol enjoys many aspects of his job, ranging from the customers, his co-workers, and the challenges that come along with a technical job.

“I enjoy what I do, I love what I do. You get a sense of satisfaction when you complete something, being able to help customers with a problem or to find a solution for their business or home is really rewarding,” Bristol said. “I enjoy the IT guy side of my job as well.”

The work culture is also very rewarding in Bristol’s eyes.

“All the employees at NITCO are like a family and everybody cares about each other. We each care about each other and it shows,” he said. “I feel very lucky because you always hear people talking about how they despise their job and don’t want to go. But I love my job.”

In his free time, Bristol stays busy as he is a member of the De Motte Kankakee Valley Rotary Club and sits on the De Motte Chamber Board of Directors. When he is not working with these organizations, he enjoys gardening and staying up to date on all things IT.
