Sebo’s Nursing and Rehabilitation is Rockin’ for A Cure

Sebo’s Nursing and Rehabilitation is Rockin’ for A Cure

In June, Sebo’s Nursing and Rehabilitation staff invited their residents’ friends and family and fellow community members to their kickoff of the Rockin’ for a Cure benefit!

This annual fundraiser is put on in different ways throughout the country to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Association. Typically, it means a night of rockin’ out to some great music, however, those at Sebo’s got creative and instead auctioned off two rocking chairs to help raise money for the Greater Indiana Chapter.

Stephanie Arevalo, Development Specialist of the Alzheimer’s Association, expressed her gratitude for Sebo’s continued support in the community.

They invited the community to purchase a raffle ticket to win a set of purple-painted, wooden rocking chairs. They were also giving out tours of the new Butterfly and Firefly Multi-Sensory room.

This room offers a relaxing space, proven to help reduce agitation and anxiety, stimulate reactions, and encourage communication. This is just one of the ways that differentiates the Sebo’s dementia care unit and program from others in the area.

“We added the addition of the Multi-Sensory room to our memory unit and our residents and staff have truly seen the benefit of this room in use for many of our residents,” said Kelly Petty, Regional Director of Marketing.

The winner of the raffled rocking chairs was a Sebo’s memory care unit resident and it was her granddaughter who will be showcasing the fun, purple chairs on her front porch at home.

Lisa Acker said her grandmother has lived at the facility for the last two years.

“My grandmother has Dementia and Alzheimer’s,” she said. “My family and I tried to care for her but she wanted her own place to live.”

Acker said her grandmother loves living at the facility and sees it as her home now.

“The staff cares so much for her,” she added. “She thinks that is her home and she is happy. That is why we love Sebo’s.”

According to Petty, the Sebo’s Nursing and Rehab staff looks forward to a continued partnership with the Alzheimer’s Association, as well as are already preparing for the 2017 Walk to End Alzheimer’s on September 17th!

The staff invites the entire Northwest Indiana community to join them at the Lake County Fairgrounds, where they are taking the first steps into a “world without Alzheimer’s!”
