Saturday Children’s Art Classes Starting May 17, 2014

Chesterton-Art-CenterDanielle Volkman will be offering a series of Saturday afternoon children's art classes from 1-2 p.m. at the Chesterton Art Center. Classes are designed for kids ages 8-12, and cost $20 for members, $25 for non-members. All supplies are included.

Classes will kick off on Saturday, May 17 with Sumi-e Watercolor Drawings. Students will use watercolor paints to create May flowers using the Japanese art of sumi-e. On May 24, Danielle will show kids how to make a Summer Pop-up Book to capture all their fun, summer plans. Children will learn One-Point Perpective on May 31, which is a great skill to have before heading into middle school art classes.

On June 7, the kids will make Art-Dry Animals using model-magic and a wire armature. The Art Center won't offer classes on June 14, but will resume on June 21 with a Zentangle class. Children will pair doodling with a type of meditation to create amazing designs. A Tissue Paper Mosaic class will be held on June 28. Students will turn a drawing into a mosaic by simply using tissue paper and craft glue.
