Rules Your Mom Taught You at The Dinner Table

Texas-Roadhouse-steakIt's funny how all of the rules your mother harped on when you were a kid are actually useful in hindsight, like table etiquette for instance. Following mom’s rules at the dinner table is appropriate for casual dining as well as more formal events. After all, dinner etiquette from mom never goes out of style.

In case you forgot what momma always said, here's a little refresher course:

1. Put your napkin in your lap.
The first thing you should do when sitting down at the table is put your napkin in your lap. This is not only polite, but also protects your clothes against any spills.

2. Keep your elbows off the table.
Elbows should be kept off the table when you are eating, specifically when you are holding utensils or a cup in your hands. Having your elbows on the table causes the table to feel crowded.

3. Don't talk with your mouth full of food.
It was gross when you were a kid... and it’s even worse when you’re an adult.
