Robert A. Taft Middle School came out victorious with a first place win at the Class 1 Regional Spell Bowl Competition on Tuesday evening. They were the overall highest scoring team of the night. The team has been diligently practicing the words on the list provided to them by the state facilitators for several months. Words such as loquacious, nacelle, obiter dictum, Gruyere, and patronymic.
Coach Liz Franklin stated, “This win was a complete team effort. From the three students who spelled every word in their round correctly, to the alternates who keep score for the proctor, everyone had a role to play. I am super proud of the ownership the kids took this year and the support they gave each other. “ Pierce Middle School in Merrillville played host to the Regional Spell Bowl Competition. This is the 31st year that the Indiana Association of School Principals sponsored this event.
