Race offers 19.3-mile marathon, 8-mile short race
The 6th annual Ride the Wave Regatta will be taking the waves on Saturday, September 7. The event, organized by the Northwest Indiana Paddling Association, offers a 19.3-mile marathon course and an 8-mile short distance course.
Participants in surf skis and sea kayaks competing in the 19.3-mile downwind marathon course along the southern shores of Lake Michigan will begin at Marquette Park in Gary and end at Washington Park in Michigan City. The one-way race will award $850 worth of prize money to the top three finishers in this division.
The 8-mile short course will begin at Michigan City’s Washington Park and paddle to Beverly Shores and back. Participants placing first through third will be awarded in each of the short course’s classes.
Spectators are invited to watch as participants begin the 19.3-mile marathon at Marquette Park at 10:00 a.m. Racers participating in the short distance course will launch at Washington Park at 10:30 a.m. Parking at Washington Park will cost $7 per car.
Those interested in participating in the event may pre-register by going to www.ridethewaveregatta.com. Each course offers different participant classes. Race-day registration will also be accepted and should be done at least thirty minutes prior to the start of the event.
A shuttle will be offered for those participating in the 19.3-mile marathon. Full times and details can be found on the website.
