For many years, the human services organization Regional Care Group has provided individuals and families living in Northwest Indiana with a vast selection of programs and resources that help improve their quality of life. Regional Care Group was formed through the partnership of three human service entities: Geminus, which offers social service resources; Lake Park Residential, which provides residential services and treatment for its clients; and Regional Health Systems, which offers clients both primary care and behavioral health care services.
Geminus offers early childhood education, family services and prevention services. Regional Health Systems offers primary care, behavioral health care, addiction services and an on-site pharmacy at certain locations.Finally, Lake Park Residential Care provides the elderly, homeless individuals, and those living with serious mental illnesses with shelter and treatment. Eric Evans, vice president of business development at Regional Care Group, believes that the organization is in a unique position to provide its clients with assistance and support.
“Regional Care Group’s most important asset is our ability to maintain a smooth and conscientious handoff of clients between the agencies that make up our organization,” Evans said. “This enables us to ensure that the whole person, and oftentimes the whole family, receives the services and care that they need. Regional Care Group will be unveiling two new locations this year. In the fall, Geminus will open the Porter County Head Start Early Learning Academy in Valpo. At this center, the county’s young students will be able to participate in Geminus’ Head Start program, an accredited non-profit that provides many education resources to children from birth to 5 years old. The center will give young students access to additional educational services as well. Soon, Regional Health Systems’ Merrillville Care Center will open its Crisis C.A.R.E. Unit. Evans looks forward to seeing how this long-awaited establishment will benefit its clients.
“Our 24/7 Crisis C.A.R.E. Unit will provide support to individuals experiencing a mental health crisis. The Crisis C.A.R.E. Unit will also partner with local law enforcement and first responders. We want to ensure that, should a call about someone having a mental health crisis come in, the first responders are aware that we can provide the individual with immediate service and care at our facility. The goal will be to help de-escalate the situation, determine what is causing the current crisis episode, and work with the individual to create a path forward to a state of wellbeing. I'm very excited to see how the Crisis C.A.R.E. Unit will benefit Northwest Indiana residents.”
