Region Self Storage holds ribbon-cutting ceremony for grand opening

Region Self Storage holds ribbon-cutting ceremony for grand opening

On June 18, the locally-owned Region Self Storage held a ribbon-cutting for its grand opening at its over 13 acre complex in Merrillville. This all-new complex was designed and built by the Griffith-based contractor firm Cambridge Companies. Region Self Storage stakeholders and members of the Hobart Chamber of Commerce were present for this momentous event. After the ribbon cutting was complete, attendees were given a tour of the Region Self Storage complex, beating the heat with cold Gatorade and water. For Cambridge Companies President and Partner Jeffrey Eriks, who is also a partner in Clay Street Development and Region Self Storage, the grand opening is a much-anticipated milestone in a lengthy process.

“This project has been in motion for about two years now,” Eriks said. “It's taken a long time to come to fruition, and we're looking forward to opening for business and getting the tenants moved in. This parcel of land has been looked at as a potential site for a project about three times in the last decade, and we're pleased that we were able to come up with a plan that worked for everyone involved. Now that we’ve completed phase one, we can continue growing and start contributing to the city of Hobart and its future growth.”

Although Region Self Storage opened on May 20, the ribbon cutting ceremony marks the official completion of the project’s first phase. This consisted of the construction of five self-storage buildings containing 132 units and a 11,200 square foot commercial building. Further phases of the project will see the construction of four additional 11,200 commercial buildings, which can be subdivided into 4,000 SF areas, and will be available for lease. Three additional self-storage buildings with over 100 units – each of which will range from 10 x 10 feet to 10 x 30 feet in size  – are to be added to the complex as well. Hobart Mayor Josh Huddlestun views the grand opening of Region Self Storage as an indication of positive things to come in Hobart.

“The City of Hobart is always willing to work with good developers who will deliver a good product,” Huddlestun said. “I think the city’s involvement with this project demonstrates that all of our staff at City Hall is committed to re-energizing our community and to serving as more of a conduit than a roadblock. Jeff Eriks and the partners at Region Self Storage are doing everything that they promised to and more. I believe that the commercial buildings that will be constructed at this facility will attract hardworking people who will go on to shop at our stores and eat at our restaurants. We're very excited for the future and can’t wait to watch as this site continues to develop.”

Not only has the Region Self Storage project breathed life and purpose into what was once the site a dilapidated building, but it will also supply local residents with about 100 new jobs. Eriks believes that Region Self Storage is uniquely suited to benefiting its local community and ultimately the Region as a whole.

“There are several aspects of Region Self Storage that set us apart from the competition,” Eriks said. “Our proximity to the City of Hobart, I-65, Lake of the Four Seasons, and the nearby restaurants, and stores are all advantageous. We have great surroundings and there is a lot of growth taking place in the area. On the self-storage side, we can benefit from all the new housing being constructed in the area. On the warehouse side, we’ll be able to cater to the many businesses that are trying to support Northwest Indiana and its growth.”
