Purdue University Northwest students Psi Chi and Psychology Club on the Westville campus will host a memorial service for Rachel Steffens, assistant professor of Psychology, on Wednesday, Aug. 31, from noon to 1 p.m. in the Library-Student-Faculty Building Assembly Hall, Room 02. Steffens died unexpectedly at the age of 37 on June 13.
Faculty, staff, alumni and community members are invited to attend.
Since arriving in Northwest Indiana in 2013, she touched the lives of many in the community. She educated hundreds of students in class, mentored 50 different students through internships, independent studies and as research assistants. She also published four scholarly works in this time.
In addition to being a student-focused faculty member, she was a community activist in Michigan City, supporting such organizations as the Boys and Girls Club and People Against Violence Everywhere (PAVE). She was an advocate of healthy behavior change and for those without a voice.
