Please join the elected and appointed officials, the department heads, and the municipal employees of the Town of Chesterton for a groundbreaking ceremony at 10 a.m. Friday, May 16, to celebrate the beginning of work on the remodel of the town hall and fire station.
The ceremony will be held in the new parking lot, on the footprint of the former police station, on the west side of the town hall, 726 Broadway.

FEATURES OF THE TOWN HALL REMODEL
- A variety of sound mitigation measures will be installed to deaden as much train noise as possible.
- New audio-visual technology will be installed to record and amplify all municipal meetings.
- The Town Council’s dais will be relocated from the east side of the chambers to the north side and the window on the east side removed.
- The chambers will be capable of accommodating 100 attendees in fixed seating.
- Three unisex restrooms accessible from the foyer will be built.
- A 703-square foot community room available for reservation by the public will also be built in the space now occupied by the old CPD Detective Bureau (and before that the Clerk-Treasurer’s Office).
FEATURES OF THE FIRE STATION REMODEL
- A two-story addition of 1,730 square feet.
- Four individual bunk rooms.
- Three new bathrooms, two on the second floor and a third on the main floor.
- A 592-square foot training room.
- Dedicated office spaces for the Chief, each of the two Deputy Chiefs, the on-duty Captain, and the on-duty Lieutenant.
- Enhanced living quarters including a kitchen with a pantry and refrigerator for each of the three shifts.
- An enhanced exercise space.
