Peters Earns Horizon League Player of the Week Honor

Valpo-Bball-Alec-Peters-Horizon-Player-Of-the-week2016For the second time this season, Valparaiso University junior Alec Peters (Washington, Ill./Washington) has been named the Horizon League Player of the Week, following a week in which he posted a trio of double-doubles as the Crusaders won the league regular season title. Peters was also selected by College Sports Madness as the Horizon League Player of the Week as well.

Peters opened the week with a solid performance in the Crusaders’ win at Cleveland State on Tuesday, hitting 6-of-10 from the field as he finished with team highs of 15 points and 10 rebounds. Then on Friday, in front of a national television audience, Peters patiently carved up Oakland, hitting six of his seven shots from the field – including a key 3-pointer with one minute to play – for a team-high 16 points. The junior also matched his career high on the glass, pulling down 14 rebounds.

Peters saved his best performance for the Crusaders’ title-clinching victory over Detroit on Sunday, however. The junior rolled up 32 points – the second-best effort of his career – as he hit 7-of-12 shots from the floor, including five 3-pointers. Peters also went 13-of-15 from the foul line, setting a new career high with his 13 free throws made, and grabbed 11 rebounds, seven of which came on the offensive end. Midway through the first half, with his second triple of the contest, Peters moved into Valpo’s career top-10 chart in scoring in just his third season as a Crusader.

For the week, Peters averaged 21.0 points and 11.7 rebounds per game on 65.5% shooting from the field. He also connected at a 57.1% clip from the 3-point stripe and 85% from the foul line. With his three double-doubles, Peters has now tallied 11 such games this year, third-most in the Horizon League.
