Peter Land to serve as Crown Point Mayor

Longtime Crown Point Police Chief Peter Land has been selected
to serve as the new mayor of Crown Point.

Land’s appointment comes as former Crown Point Mayor David Uran vacated the remainder of his term to serve as the president and CEO of the South Shore Convention and Visitors Authority.

His first day in office began at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, June 2, following the Democratic caucus that decided who would take the helm of the Mayor’s Office.

Land joined the Crown Point Police Department in June 1988 and rose through the ranks. He has served as chief of police for a total of 17 years under former Mayors David Uran, Jim Metros and Dan Klein.

“It has been my absolute privilege to serve our community for the past 34 years,” Land said. “I look forward to continuing my service as the mayor of the city I have called home for the past 55 years.”

Former Mayor David Uran said both Land and Councilwoman Dawn Stokes, D-2nd, had strong resumes.

Operations Cmdr. Ryan Patrick will serve as interim police chief.
