Peifer Elementary School Students Support Schererville City Employees

Meet-Kahler-Middle-Schools-lchs-schererville-support-2016 The second graders of Tracy Caposey’s class at Peifer Elementary School showed their love and support of the Schererville Police Station, Fire Station, Town Hall, Post Office and Parks and Recreation Center on Friday, Sept. 30 by surprising the workers with gift baskets filled with food and beverages.

“I believe our students felt very proud of themselves for giving back to the people who protect us and serve as leaders in our community every single day. I am happy that the kids look up to these professions in our community and took the time to make such wonderful thank you cards for all of them,” Caposey said.

While the students were giving gift baskets to the firefighters, their walkie talkies suddenly went off. With an emergency at hand, the presentation was cut short.

“During our presentation, the EMT's had to leave on an accident call. While some of the students were disappointed, it was a good example of why our second grade team did this in the first place: to show our gratitude to the people who serve us. Our hope as teachers is that our students can continue to respect and appreciate our community, and the people who make it a great and safe place to live for years to come,” Caposey said.

Just like the students were thankful for the workers’ services, the workers were thankful for the students’ generosity. The Piefer staff agrees that giving back is a worthwhile experience.

“I'm so proud of our students and families for their outpouring of gratitude for our local fire, police and town employees. Our students warmed the hearts of many with the sentiments on their card. I believe our Peifer community stands with the greater Schererville community in expressing our gratitude for all these local heroes do for us in their service every day” Douglas DeLaughter, Principal, said.
