Chesterton, Ind. – Northwest Indiana is full of small towns, working together to make life a little bit better for each other. That “homegrown”, “love your neighbor” feel runs deep around this area and it’s one of the reasons why giving back is so important to the team at Lakeside Wealth Management.
Each year, Lakeside executives encourage our team to give back together through community workdays. What’s more impressive, though, is the commitment each of our team members have to giving back personally, in every aspect of the term “giving back.”
In 2019, our forty-person team completed 4,053 volunteer hours throughout our communities, an average of over 100 hours per person. Seventeen of our team members sat on community boards or committees, helping to bring new ideas, processes and initiatives to the organizations we’re passionate about. The Lakeside Team was represented at over 100 community events across the region including chamber of commerce events, non-profit fundraisers and community workdays. Together we impacted 56 local non-profits through volunteer time and/or donations which includes 28 matching employee donations from Lakeside, totaling over $3,500.00.
Kelley Weisenbacher, Senior Operations Coordinator – Retirement Plan Division at Lakeside, works full time, is a mommy of two little girls, a wife and serves as the President of the board for Chicago Street Theater. “I am passionate about live theatre, what you experience as an audience member watching it and what you experience as an artist creating it,” comments Weisenbacher. “You see people and situations from a different perspective, and it gives you a chance to feel empathy, compassion, hatred, sadness, laughter, all the emotions with an open dialogue after the play ends.” When asked about her Why, Kelley said, “Chicago Street Theatre hooked me the moment I found out they had something for everyone from family shows to cutting-edge, thought-provoking dramas. They are dedicated to quality, outreach to the community and have a long, rich 25-year theatre education program that my daughter is currently involved in. My husband and I now get to share our love of the theatre with our daughters and have made it a generational affair.”
Our all-star team of community leaders also includes Jocelyn Hibshman, who served ten years as President and board member for Rebuilding Together Duneland, Megan Marshall, the youngest person to hold a seat on the board of directors for Porter County Community Foundation, Nick Walding, who serves the town of Chesterton on the Redevelopment Commission and Economic Development Commission, and many more!
“Giving back is our ‘why’,” adds Mark Chamberlain, Lakeside CEO. “We are fortunate to run a successful small business here, supported by the people in our communities. It’s our responsibility to give back in the hopes that we can inspire others to make positive changes in the region too.”
For our team, giving back is more than just sending a donation, it’s a deep rooted, homegrown pride to help others. It’s our Why!
