Thursday morning, the staff of Opportunity Enterprises hosted their version of the “Oscars.” The Celebration of Achievement was a heartwarming tribute to the clients who have made amazing progress this year, and the adoring public was there for a commemorative breakfast and award show to celebrate with them.
Whether on account of their occupation, their behavior, or their overall achievement, these amazing clients, sponsors and friends of OE were given the honor they deserved. Clients were given a medal for their achievements and given the full star treatment by having their picture taken, “red-carpet style.”
"It's so great to be able to showcase individuals accomplishments, anything from learning to walk and gaining a first job to learning how to communicate," said Becky Jascoviak, Marketing and Communications Specialist for Opportunity Enterprises. "Everybody is at a different stage but each one has reached beyond what was expected and that's what we love to celebrate, everybody's individual goals and attaining them."
In total, eight clients were winners in their respective categories.
Nicolas Aldridge, who won the Quest award, delighted the audience with one of his most well-known talents: voice impressions of his favorite characters. His Scooby-Doo was especially accurate, and got a riotous response from the crowd. Derek Rogers and Muhammed Atiq were both honored for their business and JobSource services. Donald Ferry received the Renewed Horizons award, and Ryan Florkiewicz received the Enriching Possibilities award. Also honored were Kamron Glassford, Russell Hill, and Jacob Sosbe.
"Our individuals that we serve here have challenges and goals. We work very hard to help them acheive those goals," said Ellen DeMartinis, CEO for Opportunity Enterprises. "We have staff that give their all to encourage these individuals and to help them grow in their own way."
The clients didn’t have all the fun, though. Two staff members and one volunteer were also honored for their commitment to the mission. Julie Hudec received the Jeanne Baird Volunteer award, Cathy Schiesser received the Jessica Wolfe Outstanding DSP award, and Patti Terry received the overall outstanding Staff Member award.
NIPSCO was honored as business of the year for their exceptional commitment to Opportunity Enterprises. As an organization, Opportunity Enterprises understands that without the support of their community, they couldn't accomplish many of the things they do.
"This is also a time for us to thank our community," DeMartinis said. "OE couldn't exist without our community support. We recognize the businesses that have placed our individuals in jobs and also the ones that just support us financially and give our clients opportunties. They are very supportive of our social enterprises, our shredding business and Simply Amazing Market. Our community really embraces us."
A special thanks to the sponsors for this years’ awards: Indiana Beverage, Metro Recycling, Fifth Third Bank, Urschel Laboratories, AM Stabilizers, WIMS AM 1420, Metro Recycling, and the Germann Family.
