This program takes place on Mondays from 10-11 am at the Dyer Indoor Soccer Arena (14914 W. 101st Ave., Dyer) and it will now begin NEXT MONDAY, Feb. 3 and run through March 3 (off Feb. 17). Children will participate with their parent/caregiver as they are introduced to soccer. This program aims at teaching the importance of sportsmanship and teamwork while also making new friends. Activities will concentrate on introductory skills and techniques while also keeping things fun. Children should wear gym shoes and shin guards and bring a water bottle. Dyer Parks & Recreation still has openings for their Bumper Bowling (ages 3-6 years with parent) and Bowling (for ages 6-13) Programs that take place on Mondays, beginning Feb. 3 and running through Feb. 24 at Stardust III in Dyer. Bumper Bowling takes place from 4-4:45pm and is $23 for Dyer Residents and $25 for Non-Residents. Bowling takes place from 4:15-5:30pm and is $28 for Dyer Residents and $30 for Non-Residents. Dyer Parks & Recreation is having a Little Dragons Karate Class for ages 4-6 years on Tuesdays from 5:15-6pm at the Schererville Community Center, beginning Jan. 28 and running through March 18. Little Dragons is a karate program that will provide your child with basic techniques and escapes while developing self-confidence, focus, attention span, discipline, coordination and flexibility. Students are separated after stretching according to their rank. This is a year-round program but you can start at any session. Uniforms and rank certification are available from the instructor for an additional fee. This program gets the student ready to progress to the youth program. Wear comfortable clothes. Dyer Parks & Recreation is having a Wado-Ki Karate Class for ages 7 years to adult on Tuesdays from 6-6:45pm at the Schererville Community Center, beginning Jan. 28 and running through March 18. Sensei Roger Jerome (9th degree) and Sensei Dotty Jerome (7th degree) have spent years developing Wado-Ki, a style of the ancient Okinawan martial art of Karate that stresses discipline and promotes fitness. Dyer Parks & Recreation is having a Knitting Class for children and adults on Fridays from 5-6pm beginning Feb. 21 and running through March 14 at the Dyer Town Hall Activity Room A. Participants will be amazed at the fact that this craft is both creative and inspiring. Walk away with a feeling of accomplishment when you see the beautiful, wearable and decorative items that you can make for yourself. Knitting is not only relaxing, but it helps to relieve tension and it's FUN! Even if you know how to knit, this is a great opportunity to relax and socialize. Participants are required to bring 2 (size 8) knitting needles and 1-skein of knitting worsted yarn (no variegated or dark colors please). Items can be purchased at any craft store. Dyer Parks & Recreation is offering an Easter Egg Decorating Class (ages 2-6 years) at the Dyer Town Hall Activity Room B on Friday, April 4 from 5:30-6:15pm. Children will have an Eggcellent time while decorating a one of a kind wooden egg. Participants will paint the egg and decorate it with various art supplies. Join Dyer Parks & Recreation on this great park adventure as we celebrate National Kids to Park Day on Saturday, May 17 from 10am-11:30am at Central Park (900 Central Park Blvd. in Dyer). Interested in being certified for babysitting? Join Dyer Parks & Recreation's BLAST! Training Course which takes place on Saturday, March 15 from 9am-1pm at Dyer Town Hall Activity Room B. BLAST! (Babysitter Lessons & Safety Training) is a 4 hour course (for ages 11-15 years) which includes a course completion certificate, program materials (includes a student manual) and training in pediatric first aid, household safety and fundamentals of child care. Dyer Parks & Recreation is having a Bowling Fundamentals Class for ages 5-14 years old on Sunday, February 16 from 1-2pm at the Plum Creek Center in Dyer. It will be an introduction to the wonderful sport of bowling and is perfect for children in grades K-8. During this class, children will learn about sportsmanship and will gain confidence and positive self-esteem. Bowling can be enjoyed as a family or an individual and will reinforce math concepts when keeping score. This program will also help with motor skills, movement concepts, social behavior, responsibility, physical fitness as well as hand-eye coordination. Younger children will do the same along with learning the approach, release, follow through and delivery of the ball. We have also incorporated some fun academics into this class. Dyer Parks & Recreation is sponsoring a Flashlight Easter Egg Hunt (for ages 9-12 years) on Friday, April 11 from 7-8:15pm at the Dyer Town Hall Main Meeting Room. The hunt will begin and end from inside the Town Hall. Bob & Jack's Pizza and pop will be served to the participants before the hunt. All participants need to bring their own flashlight and bag. During this 4 hour long class, you will receive a completion certificate which is good for two years, program materials (including a student manual) and training in First Aid/CPR/AED skills along with injury prevention and stroke recognition. This class has been designed for the intermediate to seasoned golfer. In this class, we will work on solidifying your fundamentals to be able to improve your game. We will also use video, talk about the mental side of the game and course management to help you take your game to the next level. Golf clubs are required for this class. Dyer Parks & Recreation's 14th Annual Daddy-Daughter Dance will be held on Saturday, February 15th from 6-8 PM at Casa Maria Banquet Hall at St. Maria Goretti Church in Dyer, IN. Moms and sons, join Dyer Parks & Recreation for our 9th annual Mother-Son Scavenger Hunt on Sunday, May 4 from 1-3:30pm at the Dyer Town Hall Main Meeting Room. It's a special activity for moms and sons to spend some fun time together. What a wild and wacky time you'll have. You'll be given a long list of items to find and places to visit during our allotted time which will translate into points. Special prizes and awards will be given at our wrap up celebration back at Town Hall where we will also have refreshments. The Hunt will start and end at the Town Hall. Dyer Parks & Recreation is looking for Chicks of all ages to register for this GIRLS ONLY walk/run. This 5K event is going to be fun, fancy, frilly, friendly, and informal! It takes place at Central Park (900 Central Park Blvd in Dyer, IN) on Thursday, May 15 at 6:30pm. Dress as you wish, but old prom dresses, hats, fancy jewelry, jeans (with holes), pajamas, work out gear, silly socks, funky hair and tennis shoes with a skirt are all encouraged! Yes, this race was created for Girls only! No official time to beat or run. It’s going to be one fantastic Girls Night Out! We will have silly stations that you will be able to stop and take your picture at. Water and a healthy snack will be provided to all participants.
