Medicare can be a difficult and daunting program to navigate when you aren’t certain where to start. So, Thursday afternoon, Oak Partners, Inc. welcomed clients and anyone looking to have their questions answered to a luncheon at Gino’s Steakhouse in Merrillville for an afternoon of good food and reliable resources.

Founded over 20 years ago, Oak Partners is a wealth and retirement planning firm that has roots all over Indiana and Ohio. The company is dedicated to preserving the wealth of their clients by providing advice, education, and renowned customer service. But what makes Oak Partners really stand out is the dedication to providing its clients dependable resources to answer any questions they may have.

“Oak Partners provides wealth management to our clients, but we are not experts in every field,” said Crystal DeHaven, Director of Client Experience for Oak Partners. “So we bring in a reliable resources on certain topics that we find our clients to be very interested in. Today’s topic is Medicare and we brought Clifford Haven to cover any changes and updates and answer questions our clients have.”

Oak Partners hosts informational events every year and each one covers a different topic. In the past, the wealth management firm has brought in knowledgeable sources on topics like Social Security, identity theft, and of course, Thursday’s topic, Medicare.

“Medicare is a program that’s very hard to navigate and there are always changes being made,” said Bridget Shoemaker, Wealth Advisor for Oak Partners. “So that’s really why we bring in these additional speakers: to provide resources that can answer any questions that our clients commonly have and provide a valuable service to our clients.”

Guests ordered lunch from Gino’s delicious menu and chatted with fellow clients as they waited for the presentation to begin. For the second year in a row, the featured speaker was Clifford Havens, an independent broker certified to help individuals with their Medicare options.

“We do these educational outreach programs because there is so much that people are confused about and so much gets distorted,” Havens said. “I have my own personal experience that I like to share with people. My mother got sick and was in the hospital, and to this day we are paying off the bill because we didn’t know back then what we know now. That’s one of the reasons I got into this, so if I can help other people avoid what my family and I went through, then that’s exactly what I’m going to do.”

With an always-changing program like Medicare, the clients of Oak Partners appreciated the information Havens presented Thursday afternoon. Every seat was filled for the luncheon as clients from around Northwest Indiana came to learn more about Medicare and the options they have now and in the future.

“We heard about the event through a flier we got in the mail, so we’re here to learn more about Medicare,” said Pam Olis of Valparaiso. “My husband is getting to be that age, so we want to stay on top of all of our options.”

Any topic like Medicare, retirement, wealth management, and more are constantly changing and can be confusing to anyone who doesn’t have all of the necessary information. That’s why it’s is reassuring to have companies like Oak Partners dedicated to keeping its clients up to date and ready for whatever comes next.
