NW Indiana ER & Hospital’s Kevin Frazier is all about giving back

When it comes to a hospital stay, patients and family members care about privacy, accessibility, and comfort – things that can make the difference when recovering from an illness or surgery. NW Indiana ER & Hospital is led by a team of highly experienced healthcare professionals who are passionate about providing the highest level of care available to the hospital’s patients, all while ensuring their satisfaction. The person who ensures the hospital’s mission is shared with others is none other than Director of Marketing Kevin Frazier.

Originally from Robbins, Ill., Frazier and his family moved to the Region when he was about to enter high school. After graduating from Highland High School, Frazier attended Purdue University Northwest and started his political science career. He and his family currently reside in Munster, Ind.

Prior to working in the healthcare sector, Frazier pursued politics.

“Before switching to marketing, I worked on political campaigns, with the last being the 2016 congressional bid,” Frazier said. “I was an integral part of Congressman Pete Visclosky’s reelection campaign, and after that wrapped up, I decided it was time for a change.”

With his eyes set on a new chapter, Frazier decided to pursue a career in marketing. He ran the marketing for a pain management clinic out of Illinois. But as fate would have it, an opportunity to work at a hospital that was being built from the ground up in Northwest Indiana presented itself, so Frazier decided to explore the option that was closer to home.

“NW Indiana ER & Hospital offered me the opportunity to have my hand in something that was being started from the ground up and also was a new concept in the area at the time,” Frazier said. “I was hired to build out a marketing program from the ground up for a healthcare facility that was being started by five local doctors. That alone was something not heard of in the area.”

NW Indiana ER & Hospital is the only physician-owned, free-standing emergency room in the region. They offer outpatient services such as outpatient imaging – which features MRI, CT scan, ultrasound and x-ray, and the moderate complexity lab as well. This enables the hospital staff to perform any testing that is needed within an emergent setting.

Since changing jobs, Frazier has worked at NW Indiana ER & Hospital for two years.

A normal start to the day for Frazier looks like drinking tea, sneaking in the occasional coffee, checking his calendar for meetings, assessing data from the ads, posts, social channels, and website, and curating marketing content.

Frazier has many favorite things about working at the hospital.

“I like everything about this job. The people, the staff – they’re great with each other and all of our coworkers are equally great with our patients. It is a close-knit staff and everyone looks after one another,” Frazier said. “When it comes to the actual job, my favorite part is being able to get out there into the community – whether it be through digital efforts or hands-on efforts. I also enjoy educating people on something that’s new, exciting, and much more convenient for them as the general public.”

While reflecting on his career and life, there are many people Frazier would like to thank.

“I would like to thank my family,” Frazier said. “My wife has been so supportive throughout my career change. I also want to thank my four kids; they have been great cheerleaders and have always been in my corner. I of course want to thank my mother for all that she has done and for her support along the way. Lastly, I want to thank my current boss, Dr. Scott Samlan, Chief Executive Officer and Physician Partner of NW Indiana ER & Hospital, and extend that thanks to all the physician partners. I am eternally grateful.”

Work aside, Frazier enjoys sports and plays a little baseball on the side. He’s also an avid movie buff. There’s no changing the channel when "The Godfather" is on. He also enjoys reading when he has the time, and, of course, being a doting husband and father.

One fun fact about Frazier is that his commitment to the healthcare sector of marketing and overall ambitions led to him being selected as one of The Times’ 20 Under 40 people honored for their success last year.

Giving back to his local community is very important to Frazier, as he thoroughly enjoys living in the region.

“I serve on the board of directors of Munster’s Chamber of Commerce, in addition to serving multiple chambers and community organizations,” Frazier said. “I love Northwest Indiana and serving the region as a whole.”
