Northwest Medical Group’s new additions to cardiac care through physicians Kyung and Rezek

Cardiology care across Northwest Indiana will now feature two new incredible physicians who were recently added to Northwest Medical Group: Stella Kyung and Issa Rezek.

Dr. Stella Kyung, M.D., who is based in the Medical Plaza at Northwest Health – Porter, is a board-certified cardiologist. 

After attending Albany Medical College in New York, Kyung completed her internal medicine residency at Stony Brook University Hospital. After this residency she completed two fellowships, one in advanced cardiovascular imaging at Loyola University Medical Center, and another in cardiovascular disease at Rush University Medical Center. Kyung also holds board certifications with the American Board of Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Medicine. 

Kyung’s care extends far with areas of interest including general cardiology, cardiac MR imaging, cardiac computed tomography, heart failure, valvular heart disease, cardiovascular nutrition, cardio-oncology, and women’s heart health.

Dr. Issa Rezek, M.D., a cardiovascular and thoracic surgeon, has a wide range of interests, similar to Kyung.

Within thoracic surgery, Rezek cares for patients through both traditional and minimally invasive, robotic-assisted surgeries in areas such as lung cancer and lung diseases, pleural disease, mediastinal tumors, empyema, chest wall tumors, hyperhidrosis, and diaphragmatic diseases.

In regard to cardiovascular surgery, Rezek performs operations including coronary artery bypass grafting, left ventricular aneurysms, open heart valvular surgery, transcatheter aortic value replacement, arrhythmia surgery, and aortic root replacement.

Rezek earned his medical degree at University of Damascus in Syria, followed by surgical residency a Yale-New Haven Hospital in Conn., and lastly completed a cardiovascular and thoracic surgery fellowship at Loyola University Medical Center in Chicago.
