Area Agency on Aging and Community Action Agency for Northwest Indiana, founded in 1965, the NWICA Mission is to ensure the people who experience financial hardship find opportunities, resources, and respect. We do this by helping individuals flourish regardless of income, ability, or age. Serving residents in Lake, Porter, Jasper, Newton, Pulaski and Starke Counties.

FUNCTION

Reporting to the Communications Manager, the Outreach Coordinator role involves working closely with the Communications Manager to support various communication initiatives within an organization. The primary responsibility of the Outreach Coordinator in this role is to assist in the development and implementation of community outreach strategies to help with brand awareness though a variety of strategies such as community events, social media and community partnerships.  

The Outreach Coordinator is expected to be an active participant in the agency's mission, vision, and values. He/she shall work to ensure consistent, quality services to the agency's constituents, demonstrate enthusiasm, initiative, and flexibility in assignments and maintain positive working relationships and communication with all agency personnel, will be inclusive, communicative and will establish himself/herself as a primary resource to those he/she supervises

MAJOR DUTIES

  • As a key member of the communications team, an outreach coordinator is responsible for engaging with various stakeholders to foster collaboration, implement effective strategies, and drive community outreach initiatives focused on possible client population.
  • With their exceptional verbal and interpersonal communication skills, outreach coordinators effectively communicate the organization’s values, mission, and goals to a wide range of individuals
  • They collaborate with partner organizations, provide support for planning client focused events
  • Assist in advancing NWICA’s outreach efforts by implementing public information campaigns and delivering speeches/presentations for public education programs
  • As part of the community engagement team, Identify and target at risk populations in need of NWICA’s services
  • Participates with and maintains collaborative relationships with local community groups, non-profit organizations, faith congregations, schools/colleges for agency outreach purposes
  • Tracks and completes regular monthly/quarterly/annual data reports necessary for the evaluation of the agencies outreach efforts
  • Utilizes approved agency collateral to develop outreach materials, including brochures, presentations, and social media content.
  • Contribute to agency event calendar and website event calendar and ensure completeness and accuracy
  • Enter data regarding community contacts and partnerships into agency approved CRM

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 1 year experience in related field.
  • Organizes and prioritizes multiple tasks
  • Ability to learn the fundamentals of programmatic policies and operating procedures.
  • Understanding of the agency’s client populations.
  • Need to be able to lift/carry up to 40lbs
  • Empathetic listening 
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively empathize with clients, and collaborate with team members and external partners
  • Cultural Competence: Sensitivity to cultural differences and an inclusive approach when working with individuals from marginalized or stigmatized groups
  • Resourcefulness: Capacity to identify and leverage available resources, services, and programs to meet the needs of the target population
  • Technology – Proven abilities, knowledge, and acumen to keep pace with current applications, programs, and platforms
