Northwest Indiana Breast Care Center at Methodist Hospitals to open new mammography at Care First Imaging Center in Schererville

The Northwest Indiana Breast Care Center at Methodist Hospitals is pleased to announce that they will begin performing Mammography at the Care First Imaging Center in Schererville in mid-December. The new Hologic 3D mammography system, will offer patients more convenient access to the high standard of care the Northwest Indiana Breast Care Center provides.

In 2011, Methodist Hospitals was the first in the state of Indiana and one of the first ten in the USA to offer the 3D mammography technology. 3D mammograms can find breast cancer at three to four millimeters, while the digital mammograms can only catch it around seven to eight millimeters, allowing for earlier detection. With the addition of this technology at the Schererville campus, Methodist Hospitals looks to continue to provide life-saving care to women.

“It’s all about bringing the best technology & care to the women in Northwest Indiana,” said Jen Sanders, Manager at the Northwest Indiana Breast Care Center. “It’s catching cancer at earlier stages. That’s the benefit of having this equipment at the Schererville campus; we can continue to meet our standard of care.”

Beginning in mid-December, the Care First Imaging Center, previously known as the Schererville Imaging Center, will provide 3-D mammograms, along with their other services, such as CT scans, MRI, bone density, and immediate care at the Immediate Care Center. The center will provide a wide range of screenings if more tests are needed, patients will be sent to the main Northwest Indiana Breast Care Center campus.

The addition of the mammography shows the strong connection between Methodist Hospitals and the Region.

“This is a great partnership between Methodist Hospitals and our community,” said Dr. Stacey Siatras, Radiologist at Methodist Hospitals. “It is our utmost priority to reach as many women as possible and offer 3-D screening mammography to every single Methodist patient. We are proud to serve women at multiple locations using the best technology for early cancer detection.”

Along with emphasizing the importance of early detection and getting routine checkups for your health, all Methodist Hospitals’ locations take the time to educate women as they come in for their mammogram or procedure.

“We do not want to just push women through quickly when they come in,” Sanders said. “We want to talk to them about their lifestyle and risk factors. We will do a high-risk breast cancer assessment which will assess their risk of developing cancer.”

“We want to educate all our patients about their health and the process,” Sanders said.
