Northwest Health – La Porte Re-Designated as Obstetrical Level of Care II and Neonatal Level of Care II Hospital

Northwest Health – La Porte Re-Designated as Obstetrical Level of Care II and Neonatal Level of Care II Hospital

The Maternal and Child Health Division at the Indiana Department of Health has re-certified Northwest Health – La Porte as an Obstetrical Level of Care II and a Neonatal Level of Care II hospital. This achievement underscores the hospital's unwavering commitment to providing exceptional care to expectant mothers and their newborns.

Simon Ratliff, Chief Executive Officer for Northwest Health – La Porte, expressed pride in the hospital's achievement, stating, "Northwest Health’s recertification reflects our ongoing dedication to elevating the standard of care for mothers and newborns in our community. This accomplishment is a testament to the expertise and collaboration of our healthcare professionals who work tirelessly to ensure the best possible outcomes for every patient."

According to the Indiana Perinatal Hospital standards, Obstetrical Level of Care 2 status signifies that Northwest Health – La Porte has the capability to handle moderately complex pregnancies and deliveries.

As the only neonatal intensive care unit in La Porte County, the attainment of Neonatal Level of Care 2 status demonstrates Northwest Health – La Porte is capable of providing specialty care for infants delivered as early as 32 weeks or who are moderately ill with problems that are expected to resolve rapidly and who would not be anticipated to need subspecialty-level services on an urgent basis.

Both the designations followed a rigorous examination of the hospital’s written standards, protocols, guidelines, staff training, and equipment.

“I am incredibly proud of the work our maternity and NICU team members do at Northwest Health – La Porte,” said Kristin Wroblewski, director of the Birthing & Family Care Center at Northwest Health – La Porte. “By meeting the state’s stringent criteria, we have again demonstrated our readiness to provide superior care to mothers and babies at every stage of the perinatal journey.”
